So, what is Tempsford Parish Plan?

A Parish Action Plan (to give it it's proper title) is an opportunity for the whole community to voice their opinion on what action they wish to see taken in their local area in the future.

The Parish Plan:

  • Involves and includes everyone in the parish

  • Maps out services and facilities already in the community

  • Discovers what issues and opportunities people feel need addressing.

Why do a Parish Plan?

  • It is an opportunity to look forward for the next 5 to 10 years rather than just responding to tasks that need immediate action.

  • A Parish Action Plan provides a collective view of what people in the parish want, providing a stronger voice for the community.

  • It provides evidence of need and commitment, which may be used to influence local authorities, service providers and funders.

  • It can test or encourage community backing for a project that has already been identified.

  • It is an opportunity to bring everyone in the parish together strengthening community spirit & involvement.

Parish Plans - what is involved?

The Parish Plan process is really split into 4 parts.

  • Getting the whole village's views on Tempsford using many different consultation methods to provide input into the next stage where we can then really concentrate on the areas that the village thinks are important.

  • The second stage is getting the villages opinions via a detailed questionnaire on the major issues to form a consensus of opinion that can be carry weight into the third stage.

  • In the third stage, the results from the detailed questionnaire and all of the other events are rolled up into a document, Tempsford Parish Plan, which we can use in the fourth and final stage.

  • The fourth and final stage is where the Tempsford Parish Plan document guides us to carry out any actions identified to improve the village and provides the village with a strong weight of opinion in seeking to influence decisions made by other authorities that affect Tempsford and it's villagers.

The Parish Plan is being co-ordinated by a Steering Group made up of villagers. We currently have 4 members though ideally we would have 6 or 7 members representing both Station Road and Church End sides of the village, a range of ages, and longtime residents as well as newcomers. The current membership of the steering group consists of Dan Clark (Chairman), Adrian Besant and Kay Quinn with excellent support from Zoe Ashby of Beds Rural Communities Charity. We would heartily welcome new members to the group! If you would like to help support the group in other ways, please get in touch.
